Conference Weekend

We had a nice, mostly lazy, general conference weekend. We took the kids to the Air Force Museum Friday after school. It ended up being a very short trip. We met Nate there at 4:00 and the museum closed at 4:30. Who knew?!? I guess we should check little things like that before we show up. The kids were pretty bummed that we didn’t have time to see all of the cool planes. We promised them that we would go again another day and took them to McDonalds for an ice cream. That helped them to recover quickly from their disappointment.

Soccer got rained out on Saturday, so we had the whole day at home. We listened to conference while we did 73 random projects around the house. Nate found my old coin funnel while he was cleaning the storage room. It kept the kids happy for hours. Holly brought her kids out while Shane and Nathan and Nate were at Priesthood Meeting. The kids played and watched Halloweentown. It was a fun, spontaneous little get-together.

In celebration of not having to get up early for church, we let our kids have a little slumber party after their cousins went home. Ben took his new favorite books (two of our old college textbooks on geology and geography) into his sisters’ room. It was funny to hear him teaching them little facts (“Did you know that the whole earth is made of rock?”) from the books.

Conference was good. The best part was watching with the kids on Sunday. We gave them conference bingo cards again. It helped them to focus a little and sit quietly. It was cute to hear Elise say things like “He just said resurrection, but we already have that one.” I don’t think they really get much out of it, but I feel like it is good to at least get them in the habit of watching.

After conference, the kids wanted to watch a movie. They were all lying on the love sac on their backs with their heads hanging down, so Nate thought he would be funny and turn the movie upside down on the screen. They thought it was so cool. They insisted on watching the whole movie that way. Crazy kids.

Abby is going through a funny accessory phase. She loves putting on shoes and hats and jewelry. Her latest obsession is with swimsuits. She’ll get one out and do her best to put it on. This is how it usually works out:

Your kids are hilarious! Ben's favorite books really are geology and geography??? Those are probably 2 of my least favorite subjects, but I guess someone should like them. He's a smart cookie!

I was laughing the whole time I was reading this. Ben is so funny with all of his random knowledge, he'll have to go on Jeopardy in a few years. I love that your kids all watched the whole movie upside down.
Are you guys watching Amazing Race this season? There are two guys on that I was telling Aaron if Nate and Shawn ever went on it together that is who they would be like. :)

Are you referring to the two computer nerds that quoted Yoda on the last episode? We love them! Ben as watching with us and you should have seen the grin on his face when he heard "Do or do not . . . there is no try." GO NERDS!
