Driving to California brought with it a few funny memories. We had food and treats in the van as we were traveling, and at one point Abby's cupcake got smashed. When Malinda told her she would switch cupcakes with her since she "was going to smash it anyway (snort, snort)", Abby laughed hysterically. It set off a chain reaction with all of the other kids laughing because Abby was laughing so hard.
The trip down was largely filled with listening to the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire audiobook (first time for the 3 girls), interspersed with watching Iron Man and Nim's Island. We also started playing the license plate game, but we had to do it on paper since we forgot to take the game board. It only took us until Lehi to make a list of all the states from memory. Breaking with tradition, Malinda took an unusual turn driving between Beaver and St. George since I was exhausted. We managed to find the California state sign since we missed it on our last trip to the Golden State, and took our customary family photo.
We grabbed a bite at Arby's before getting to the hotel. After arriving at the hotel (much, much better than our last Anaheim hotel), we got all settled and then decided to take a little swim down in the pool. We met and talked with a family visiting from Austrailia who was traveling in the states and Canada for a couple of months. Now that's a vacation!
