We woke up today to find Emily and Elise ensconced in the window of our cabin with the curtains closed. Whale watching was on.
After getting dressed, we headed over to Jody and Sarah's cabin to wish Sarah a happy birthday and give her our gift. Her cabin was filled with balloons overnight, and she was super excited to be four! Her reaction to our gifts was hilarious. To put it mildly, she was underwhelmed.
We all headed to the Summer Palace restaurant to eat breakfast.
Being out on the open ocean did a number on Ben. He was so miserable that he skipped out on breakfast and headed back to the cabin to lie down. Luckily with some Dramamine and a green apple from our super nice waiter, he was back to normal a couple of hours later.
Making towers from non-dairy creamer packs kept Sarah well-entertained.
After lunch, Jody took a little nap while we took Sarah up to play in the hot tub.
She sure knows how to make awesome faces!
The adventure of the day was when the Canadian Coast Guard was called to take a passenger with a medical condition (rumored to be a stroke) off the ship. The ship had to turn around and head back southeast for a couple of hours to meet up with the helicopter. It was pretty cool to watch them winch a couple of guys down to the ship and then raise a basket with the man back up to the helicopter.
Ben ran into a kid from school, Pierce Callister, while we were watching the helicopter, and he thought that was pretty cool that he knew someone else on the ship. While were up watching, I noticed this sign on the very top deck of the ship (Ben didn't even know it was there). I guess going on an Alaska cruise you miss out on some of the amenities that the Caribbean cruisers enjoy. ;)
Whale watching that night from the Garden Cafe wasn't successful for any whales, but we did see lots of porpoises jumping.
That night we enjoyed some quality entertainment, watching a tribute quartet perform songs from Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons in the Stardust Theater.
