Saturday morning we headed to Fat Cats for a birthday bowling party for Sarah. We had a fabulous time. I always like hanging out with my family, but some days the stars just align and everyone gets along great and has a genuinely fun time. This was one of those days. After a yummy lunch at Costa Vida (thanks Jody!), we headed home to plant the garden and do some other yard work. It’s been a long time since we’ve had nice weather and no plans on a Saturday and our yard was in need of some serious attention.

We came home from church on Sunday and spent the afternoon cancelling all of our trip reservations and making new ones. I was a little bitter that the plans that I had made (way back in October) weren’t going to work out, but Mother Nature doesn’t seem to care too much about facilitating my vacation plans. The good news is that after getting everything rearranged, I think our Plan B will actually work out a bit better than our original plan. When we were done figuring out all of the logistics for our trip, we finished up the night watching Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader with the kids.
Monday we woke up to snow. The kids thought it was so cool that we had just about every type of weather during the course of the day . . . rain, snow, hail, wind, sun. I’m seriously beginning to wonder if winter is ever going to end around here. Since the weather was iffy, we moved our Memorial Day BBQ from an outdoor event at Holly and Shane’s to an indoor event at Jody and Kevin’s. It was another fun family day, and it was nice to stay out late (9:00) without worrying about getting up for school the next day.
The kids spent a lot of time over the weekend doing graph art. Jody gave us some cool worksheets where the kids use a code and a coordinate grid to make mystery pictures. They (especially Ben and Emily) think that it is lots of fun, and I love that they are learning some good math skills without even knowing it. We started a little summer art gallery on the wall in the hallway. We’re either going to have to expand it or be more selective about what is gallery worthy.
