Speech Therapy and Splash Pad

Ben has made great progress with his speech over the last few years, but we thought he would benefit from a little more work on his Rs. So, it was back to Dr. Hugh. (His name is really Dr. Hansen, but Ben has always called him Dr. Hugh.) We only went to six sessions this summer, but it made a noticeable difference in Ben’s pronunciation.

We first took Ben to Dr. Hugh when he was three. It has been a long journey to get from that late-talking boy to this kid who rarely stops talking, and Dr. Hugh has been there for pretty much the whole thing. He has been so great with Ben all along the way and Ben loves him. I figured a seven year relationship warranted a quick picture on our last day.

I knew the kids wouldn’t be thrilled about a weekly doctor appointment, so I sweetened the deal by promising to stop at Arctic Circle to get ice cream cones each week on the way home. It made everyone lots more excited about going to an appointment in the middle of a summer day. Since we were in South Ogden anyway, I was an extra nice mom a couple of times and took the kids to the splash pad. They had a great time playing together. One of the best things about having four kids in six years is that they keep each other entertained. I’m glad that they are good friends (most of the time).

It is crazy to think of how much you wanted him to start talking and how much he talks now!

I love all of their poses in that last picture. I hope my kids are all that good of friends as well.

Your kids do seem to get along so perfectly, I only hope to be so lucky with my kids, what is the trick, surely there must be more to it than simply having them close together.

Crystal, don't be confused. My kids don't get along perfectly. Sometimes they don't get along at all. :) I take my blogging philosophy from a quote by President Kimball about keeping a journal. He said, "The truth should be told, but we should not emphasize the negative." So, I try to focus on the times when everyone is happy and nice and not on the times when everyone is fighting and whining.

I will say that my kids get along TONS better when we are out doing something. Days when we stay home all day (or even just in the morning when we are getting ready to go somewhere) they tend to argue and complain lots more. Once we get in the car to go do something, they are typically pretty happy and well behaved.

And, I'm not a very patient mom. My kids know they don't get three or seven chances. Get Mom in a bad mood and the fun is over. They usually don't press their luck.

There you go. More than you ever wanted to know when you asked what the trick was. :)

Ummmm... Is Elise wearing a Kohl's swimsuits? So cute!
I love the one I got Madison from that killer sale but I would trade it in a heart beat for that black and white swimsuit.
I just recalled a conversation about buttons popping off. Seriously I should use my brain cells for more constructive thoughts instead of storing random info. :)

I am glad to meet Dr. Hugh. It has been quite a journey with Ben, but he is doing so good. It makes it all worth it, right? I ditto the whole story about kids getting along when you are doing something fun, not when you are staying at home.
