Sunday night there was an annular eclipse visible from Utah. We didn’t go all out and drive 5 hours to get to Kanarraville (the best place to see it), but we had a fun little eclipse viewing party in our own back yard. We ordered some solar glasses on Amazon and Nate made a pinhole projector so we could see it that way too. He actually made a second one in our family room window so we could track the progress from inside the house. The kids were super excited about it when the moon first started to move in front of the sun. Their interest waned as the night progressed, but they still thought it was pretty neat. They were in and out of the house a dozen times to check it out.
Ben kept turning his head upside down to look. When I asked him what he was doing, he said
that he was making the sun look like the DreamWorks moon. Crazy kid.
We don’t have a solar filter for our camera, but Nate
improvised and used a pair of our eclipse shades to get a couple of really good
pictures.
The leaves on our trees acted like tons of little pinhole
projectors and created hundreds of crescents all over the back of our
house. It was really cool.
