There was a lot more water up there than usual. It was too cold to play in the river, but the kids had fun throwing in rocks and sticks. We went on a little walk while our scout dinners were cooking. There were still patches of snow along the road and Nate and Ben thought it was great fun to throw snowballs at everyone while we were walking. After dinner, we spent some time playing card games in the trailer. I was pleasantly surprised that the kids won a few hands of Set. It is a game of skill and, not to toot my own horn, but I usually win (even when my competition isn’t elementary aged kids). Elise was particularly quick with finding sets. I was impressed.
Nate cut down a big dead tree and dragged it back to camp for firewood. We spent the night around the campfire roasting marshmallows, eating s’mores and singing songs. The kids’ favorites are Gladys, Father Abraham, and On Top of Spaghetti (even though they wished that Uncle Shane was there to do his giant sneeze). We slept really well in spite of temperatures in the low 40s. I guess I should say that I slept well. Nate was up a few times in the night helping the girls get rearranged and back to sleep. Abby is a wild sleeper and having her share a bed with Emily and Elise was a big mistake. Next camping trip, she gets to sleep on the little bed and Ben can share with his sisters.
Saturday morning we took the kids on the little hike up to the waterfall. It turned out to be more of an adventure than we bargained for. It is only a half mile hike, but there was snow covering the trail in several places and lots of fallen trees that we had to crawl over or under. Ben and Emily were troopers and did really well. Elise hated it. She had a tough time navigating all of the hazards on the trail . . . the loose rocks, the mud, the fallen trees, and the very slippery snow. It will be tricky to convince her to go hiking again anytime soon.

We have the last weekend in July reserved for camping with you if you can go. That waterfall looked really pretty and I love the picture with Elise and her dirty bum.

It's hard to always remember everything you need in a trailer.
The easiest way we have found to keep things organized and stocked in our trailer is to keep a note pad in a drawer. We are constantly adding to it. The list always has at least 2 or 3 things on it and has really helped keeping things running smoothly.
Heidi, the one weekend you have free is the one where we already have plans. That is the week that we are going camping with my family. Any others work for you?
